Gumball Rally Cruises 197 Milesfrom Ritzville
By Brian Curtis
The April 22, 2018 Gumball Rally hosted by the Ritzville Classic Car Club was once again enjoyed by all the participants. This year featured a tour of eastern Washington covering four counties and 197 miles through some most interesting scenery. Beginning in Ritzville, we drove north through the rolling wheat fields, turning south to Sprague for the first stop, poker cards drawn to add to the first. Plenty of time to visit, we then drove east through lake country, forests and unique rock formations left by the big flood before our time. Lunch was served the gang at Spangle's Harvester Restaurant, spaghetti and fixin's for most of us, some ordered from a huge menu with many choices.
The afternoon section of the tour headed west over the hills to Malden then St. John where we surrounded the local park for a final pit stop before the drive back to Ritzville for the tour conclusion and awards at the Ritzville City Park. "Gumball Trophies" given for "Oldest Participant", "Oldest Driver", "Youngest Participant", "Longest Distance Driven to the Event", "Oldest Car Driven", and the special awards "The Ford Award", given to the unlucky participant with a break down issue. This is a traveling award that comes back the following year with a car part added that represents the issue. Also, if a second breakdown occurs, there is a trophy for that too! Sadly, both were handed out this year.
Come join us for a leisurely tour of some unique route of Washington, usually around 200 miles give or take, leaving from Ritzville, WA, April 2019.
